Use augmented reality in flyering and postering.
Augmented reality is a live view of a real-world environment or scene whose elements are computer generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. This concept hasn’t been very popular yet but students will enjoy and appreciate the technological aspects of augmented reality, especially students at math/science heavy or technological schools. Marketers can design flyers, posters, and artwork and have them embedded with an augmented code and distribute them across campus.
Proximity mobile marketing.
Proximity marketing is a useful strategy, and one that many retailers use to knock out competition. It can be used on college campuses or areas around campuses to target consumers that are unaware of your brand or don’t know what they are looking for in a brand. Those new to a particular area, such as incoming freshman, will gravitate towards using their phones for information. Proximity targeting will make your brand and its message appear trustworthy and helpful.
Social media contests.
Businesses interested in the college market who have a social media presence are already ahead of those who do not, simply because students are inherently social media savvy. The key to creating a successful social media campaign with a minimum amount of planning and expenses is to encourage an environment of participation. This can be achieved through small changes such as changing cover photos to pictures with customers, running caption or hashtag contests, and letting the customers decide what is next for a specific product for your company.
Purchase ad space on multiple platforms.
Buy ad space on high traffic areas on campus to increase awareness of your brand that will reach the highest amount of potential customers. Make sure to expand your reach by incorporating your ad on different platforms – from student publications and newspapers, campus events to campus transportation systems. This will make sure your brand will be imprinted in incoming students’ minds as they attend campus events and read their freshman issue edition of the newspaper.
